How we compared
We compared label facts and prices for seven liquid black seed oils that Canadians can order today from Amazon.ca, Well.ca, iHerb Canada and our own store. Prices were checked October 28, 2026, in Canadian dollars. Price per mL is the shelf price divided by the bottle size. Every number comes from the brand's own listing or label, and anything a brand does not state is marked "not listed."

Plant of Life gives you organic, 100% cold-pressed Nigella sativa oil at $0.125 per mL. That beats Amazing Herbs, Heritage Store, Freshfield and Nature's Way on price per mL.
The label lists 82 mg of thymoquinone per 1 tsp serving. For comparison, Amazing Herbs lists 48 mg per teaspoon. Subscribe and save drops our bottle to $26.99, or $0.112 per mL, lower than the one-time price of any 8 oz bottle we found.
You also get CAD pricing with no exchange surprise, standard shipping in Canada in 2 to 5 business days, and a 30-day wellness guarantee.
Best budget per mL: Zhou Nutrition Organic
Zhou is the cheapest per mL in our table at $0.117, for a 240 mL USDA Organic bottle at CA$28.10 on iHerb Canada. It is cold-pressed and lists no other ingredients.
Two things to know. The bottle material is not listed. And iHerb's free shipping starts at CA$55, so one bottle on its own does not qualify. If you are already building an iHerb cart, Zhou is a smart buy.
Best big bottle, made in Canada: Naka Platinum
Naka Platinum is a Toronto brand with a 300 mL glass bottle of virgin, QAI certified organic black cumin oil. On Amazon.ca it is $35.99, or $0.120 per mL. The 500 mL size is $54.99, or $0.110 per mL, the lowest one-time price per mL we saw.
Shop around: the same 300 mL bottle is $48.99 on Well.ca. Buy Naka if you go through a lot of oil and want glass.
Best in amber glass: Heritage Store Organic
Heritage Store sells a USDA certified organic, cold-pressed, unrefined oil in a sealed amber glass bottle with a bilingual English and French label. The brand describes the flavour as bold and peppery.
The catch is price: $41.18 for 237 mL on Amazon.ca ($0.174 per mL), and $43.99 on Well.ca. You pay about 40% more per mL than Plant of Life for a similar spec.
Best-known name: Amazing Herbs Premium
Amazing Herbs is the brand most people have heard of. Its 240 mL Premium bottle has 17,312 reviews on iHerb, lists a minimum of 1.2% thymoquinone and is Non-GMO Project Verified. It is cold-pressed in the USA from a heat-free virgin first pressing.
In Canada it costs CA$59.01 on iHerb, or $0.246 per mL, nearly double Plant of Life. On Amazon.ca a third-party seller lists the 8 oz bottle at $111.32. Organic status is not listed.
Also worth a look
Nature's Way Organic ($29.94 for 236 mL on Amazon.ca) is certified organic, cold-pressed and standardized to 0.5% to 2.0% thymoquinone, in a BPA-free bottle. Freshfield ($35.99 for 237 mL) comes in glass with a minimum of 1.5% thymoquinone, but organic is not listed.
Other names you will see: Sweet Sunnah's 16 oz bottle is $110.05 on Amazon.ca from a third-party seller, in an HDPE plastic bottle. MAJU (8 oz, glass) and Kiva (8 oz, glass, USDA Organic) are priced in US dollars on their own sites at US$44.00 and US$25.00. Organika sells black cumin seed as softgels on Well.ca, not as a bottled oil.
What to look for when buying
- Certified organic on the label. Five of the seven oils we compared say so. If a listing only says "non-GMO," that is not the same thing.
- Cold-pressed, nothing added. The ingredient list should read one thing: black seed (Nigella sativa) oil.
- A dark bottle with a seal. Amber or dark glass keeps light off the oil. Check for a seal under the cap.
- Price per mL, not sticker price. Bottles range from 236 mL to 300 mL, so a cheaper sticker can cost more per spoonful.
- Thymoquinone on the label. Brands that print mg per serving or a percentage let you compare like for like.

FAQ
What is the best black seed oil brand in Canada?
For most buyers, Plant of Life Organic Black Seed Oil: it is organic, 100% cold-pressed, $29.99 CAD for 240 mL ($0.125 per mL) and lists 82 mg thymoquinone per teaspoon. If price per mL is all that matters, Zhou on iHerb or Naka's 500 mL bottle on Amazon.ca cost slightly less.
Is cold-pressed black seed oil better?
Cold pressing squeezes the oil from the seeds without high heat or chemical solvents, so you get the oil and nothing else. Every oil in our table states it is cold-pressed. Look for that phrase plus a single-ingredient label. Plant of Life lists 100% cold-pressed Nigella sativa oil and nothing more.
How much black seed oil should I take a day?
Follow your label. Plant of Life suggests ½ to 1 teaspoon daily, on its own or mixed into juice or a smoothie. Amazing Herbs suggests up to one teaspoon twice a day, starting at ½ teaspoon. Heritage Store suggests one teaspoon (5 mL) daily with food. Many people also massage a few drops into skin or scalp.
What does black seed oil taste like?
Strong. Heritage Store calls its flavour bold and peppery, and Kiva calls the flavour distinctive and robust. Amazing Herbs notes that batches can vary in taste and colour. The easy fix is to stir your teaspoon into juice, a smoothie or warm tea instead of taking it straight.
Is black seed oil the same as black cumin seed oil?
Yes. Both names describe oil pressed from Nigella sativa seeds, which is why you will see "black seed," "black cumin" and "Nigella sativa" on labels in this list. It is not the same plant as the cumin in your spice rack. Check the label for Nigella sativa as the only ingredient.
